Knitnews #12: Clever Knits updates for August 2010

Clever Knitters,

July was an awesome and exciting month, and I owe a HUGE thanks to each and every one of you who came out for our anniversary sale. THANK YOU. It was amazing and super great fun - I love yarn birthdays!

In the heat of summer, we continue our shawl KAL and are holding LOADS of awesome classes to get those creative juices flowing. It's also the time of year to get started on holiday knitting! I can hardly believe it, but it's true. So, think about felted slippers, amigurumi toys, chunky hats and scarves. These compact projects make great lunchtime-knitting in overly air-conditioned offices, or here in our nice cool shop.

Double the shawly goodness in August! We're featuring TWO different projects this month, so it truly is a CAKAL. Both patterns are FREE on Ravelry, linked below.

For those of you who crochet, our Crochet Socks teacher, Sarah Kukuchek, wrote a pattern for a sister-shawl to the Multnomah ('Mulblahblah' was our KAL a few months back). I am pleased to feature Sarah's lovely pattern as our Crochet-a-Long for August.

This month's Knit-a-Long will be the Springtime Bandit. This pattern recommends using 400yds of Aran-weight yarn and size 8 needles, but I'll be making mine on size 5 needles with fingering weight yarn (still just 400yds). This is why shawls are so awesome: they are SUPER versatile.
