About

I'm Helena. I design knitting patterns and I make stuff for knitters & crocheters.

For two years, I owned and managed local yarn store Clever Knits in Vista, CA, but 2011 was a bad year for yarn in Southern California, and we lost about half our yarn stores (mine included). Now I design patterns under the same name, and I spend weekends as Vice Pigmentologist at Oink Pigments.

I learned to crochet when I was four years old. I taught myself to knit over a decade ago when I started a Master’s program in Literature and Writing. I often joke that “Knitting stuck; grad school did not” - I have now dropped out of two different graduate programs because I’d rather be knitting!
