Clever Knits yarn store permanently closed its doors on May 15, 2011.

We still knit the first Tuesday of every month from 7-10pm in the "Maté Attic" at the Yellow Deli, 315 E. Broadway, in Vista.

Weird Weekend Sale!

We're having a weird weekend sale! 10% off all yarns now through Sunday, Jan 30, 2011. With a tricky bonus discount!

If you have a particular pattern in mind for a new yarn purchase, then it doesn't count as "stash." So, come in with a particular pattern in mind and all the supplies you need for your project are 20% off! - that includes needles, and (if we have it) the book or pattern! The catch is? You have to be able to name the pattern (or come with a set of drawings and a schematic if it's a new pattern of your own design).

This sale is limited to items we currently have in stock (no special orders), may not be combined with other offers, and other terms may apply. See store for details.

TNNA (be careful, there are two N's in there)

Two weekends ago, Lexi and I went to TNNA. That's the yarn conference and trade show for people "in the business" - mostly yarn shops and people who want to sell their stuff to yarn shops. It was amazing and delightful and we picked out some special and marvelous things that we hope to introduce to the store in the coming months.

We saw YARN CELEBRITIES, like Cookie A. and the Ravelry Crew (I think I have a crush on Casey). We touched lots of amazing fiber. And walked OVER THREE MILES back and forth across the trade show floor. And coveted and coveted and COVETED.

We spent several hours hanging out with the new owner of O-Wool and her mother. I must say, we are SO EXCITED about O-Wool's' new ownership. She's young and hip and positively delightful - I wish we lived on the same coast so that I could be her best friend and we could go to knitnight together. Lexi and I spent a long time in her booth picking out some delightful new colours. These are tough decisions to make!

It was loads of fun. I only wish that it were held in locations more exotic than Long Beach, Ohio, or Phoenix :/

Clever Knits on Groupon!

Hello to those of you who found us on Groupon! Whether you're a new or future knitter or crocheter, or a regular who found an amazing surprise bargain, we look forward to seeing you soon! We're getting lots of questions about how these can be used, and want to clarify some of the FAQ. This is our first Groupon, too, so please accept our apologies if we're a bit confused as we stumble through this.

Here's a quick summary of the rules from the Groupon website:
Expires in 1 year. Limit 2 per person, may buy 2 additional as gifts. Limit 1 per visit. Reservation required for classes. Not valid toward sale or clearance items. Must use in 1 visit. Tax not included. Not valid with other offers. See the rules that apply to all deals. You must use 100% of the coupon in one visit.

And some extra clarification:
  • You may only use ONE Groupon per day.
  • You may use a total of TWO Groupons per person over the course of the next year (through the expiration date of 01/18/2012). The Groupon website allows each person to buy FOUR total - "Limit 2 per person, may buy 2 additional as gifts." We'll be keeping track of who you are and how many you've used, so if you did buy four, you'll need to find a friend or two to whom you can give or sell your extras.
  • If you pre-register for a class with one Groupon, you may not use your other Groupon on the day of that class.
  • The $25 Groupon amount does not include tax. Pre-tax total for your purchase must be at least $25, so be prepared to pay sales tax. Note that we do not accept credit cards for amounts under $15, so bring a few dollars cash with you for sales tax. Vista, CA sales tax is 9.25%.
  • You may not combine your Groupon with any other offers - that includes other Clever Knits coupons, sales, specials, clearance merchandise, stamp cards, etc. It's valid on full price classes and merchandise only.
  • You may use your Groupon on private lessons! We charge $20 per 30 minutes, so you'll need to find some yarn to buy with the remaining $5, or pony up the extra $15 to upgrade to a full hour (you still can't use more than one Groupon).
  • Your Groupon purchase is not eligible for stamps on your stamp card.
  • Your Groupon may not be used for special orders. Must be used on in-stock items only.
  • Your Groupon may not be used to purchase Oink Pigments products.
  • Other terms & conditions may apply. See store for details.

Got all that? Whew! So how do you sign up for a class?
  1. See the list of our current class offerings or come pick up a schedule in the store.
  2. To sign up online, just email us with your Name, Phone, Email, and attach that Groupon! You will be considered pre-paid and that Groupon will be used to pay your class fees. Most of our classes are $25; if your class is more, you'll need to call us to pay the difference over the phone with your credit card. Some classes include supplies in the class fee; others are additional. Verify this before you sign up for your class.
  3. To sign up in person, just bring your Groupon in with you.
  4. To sign up over the phone, call us at 760-806-6744 and have your Groupon ready. We'll need your name, the name on the Groupon (if it was a gift), and the number under the barcode in the bottom right corner of the coupon area.
  5. If you sign up online or over the phone, be sure to show up 15-20 minutes early for your class so that you can pick out your supplies.
Please note that once you are signed up for a class, that Groupon is used! Class registration can not be transferred, rescheduled, credited, nor refunded in any way, so please be certain that you are able to make the date before you sign up. We are not able to make any exceptions to this policy.
