Summer Shrug Pattern

I am pleased to feature a new, FREE pattern written by Lexi. This highly customizable pattern for a chunky-weight shrug, a quick knit that is perfect to wear over a sundress on cool summer evenings.

The pattern includes instructions for customizing the garment to your gauge and size.

Materials:

• Yarn: 2 (2, 3, 3) balls of Cascade Baby Alpaca Chunky--108yds/100g or similar bulky/chunky weight yarn
• Needles: 11 US(8.0mm) needles or size needed to get gauge
• Gauge: 12 sts and 16 rows over 4” in St st
• Notions: Stitch markers, stitch holders or waste yarn, tapestry needle

Sizing:
S (M, L, XL) sizing used for yarn estimation only - exact measurements depend on your custom size, catered to your custom gauge.

I can't believe it, but we've made it a WHOLE YEAR. July 5th is the anniversary of our opening, and we will be celebrating with a HUGE SALE all weekend, more new and exciting classes than ever before, and other fun surprises.

I owe you all a huge thanks, for being so wonderful and dedicated, and for making Clever Knits the kind of place I dreamed it would be. We have built a wonderful little community, and I am so grateful for all of the things I've learned and the friends I've made - and I could never have imagined it would be as awesome as it is. 1. ANNIVERSARY SALE - Sat July 3 through Tues July 6

Kids, I'm in shock. This must be how parents feel when their babies reach that first birthday. My yarn baby is a whole year old! And I'm celebrating with a stupidly ridiculous awesome BOGO sale.

EVERYTHING in the store is Buy-One-Get-One-50%-off. Yarn. Needles. Notions. Patterns. Books. Buy ANY one item, and get ANY 2nd item (of equal or lesser value) for 50% off. Crazy, no? The only items NOT eligible for this discount are clearance items (which will all be 50% for the sale, so that's a crazy discount anyway), and Oink Pigments sock yarns, hand-dyed by our own Lexi Jade.

Sale starts Saturday at noon and ends Tuesday night at 10pm. We'll be holding our regular hours during the sale, 12-7pm Sat/Sun, 12-6pm Mon, and 12-10pm Tues.

2. Surprises! - TWO very special surprises for the Anniversary!

FIRST SURPRISE: Lexi has designed a very special, limited-edition, hand-dyed Oink Pigments colourway JUST FOR CLEVER KNITS. This one will ONLY be available during the anniversary sale, and she's only making 20 skeins of it, EVER. What will it look like? Well, that's the surprise. It will be unveiled ON THE ACTUAL ANNIVERSARY, Monday, July 5th. Again, this won't be eligible for any discounts, and we're limiting y'all to 1 skein per person, cos it's ultra special.

SECOND SURPRISE:This is the one I've had up my sleeve for a couple of weeks now, and I'm just giddy with anticipation! If you spend at least $100 on any day during the sale, you'll also get FOR FREE one of our brand new amazing awesome limited edition Clever Knits project bags! These are the EXACT SAME organic cotton, drawstring bags that Ravelry uses for their project bags, but better, because with these, you can show your support for your favourite LYS. 3. Stitch 'N' Pitch - Sunday, July 18th, 1:05pm, $16

Baseball + Knitting = SuperFunTime, especially when you get to sit with all your Clever Knits pals! Our Padres will play the Arizona Diamondbacks, and we'll be up in the nosebleeds with a bunch of other rowdy knitterly folks. Refs beware, we have sharp sticks!

Tickets are $16 each, and your knitcomplices are more than welcome to join you. We will be arranging group transit -- carpools and/or coaster rides -- so let us know if you're interested in riding together as well as watching the game together.

We are now collecting money for the tickets, which will be available to pick up during the week leading up to the game. So come in soon to get yours!

Announcing: Oink Pigments

Many of you know that our very own Lexi has started her own line of hand-painted yarns. She's calling it 'Oink Pigments' (so cute!) and Clever Knits is pleased to be the exclusive retailer of her yarns.

The base yarn she is currently using is a 80% superwash merino / 20% nylon sock yarn that weighs in at 100g / 420yds. The skeins are retailing for $20 here in the shop, and the colours are positively delightful.

We will be setting up a special display as she expands her line, and new colourways will creep in often. Lexi is happy to dye custom colourways as well, so bring in your favourite fabric or painting or garment and we can place an order to your specifications.

Here is a sampling of some of her first colourways. With names like 'Goldfish Bowl' and 'Bubblegum Blues' how can you NOT fall madly in love?

Stitch 'n Pitch!

Interested in going to Stitch 'n Pitch with a group of your Clever Knits pals?



The cost: $16 per ticket. Right now we are just taking names, so no money is due just yet. We'll give you a jingle or drop you an email when we are ready to purchase the tickets to confirm that you are still interested and to collect payment for the tickets.

The game: Sunday, July 18th at 1:05pm, San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks. Seats are going to be somewhere in the 300's, and I will make every effort to make sure our seats are on the shady side of the park to avoid sunburns :)

The Logistics: We will be coordinating group transit - carpools and/or riding the Sprinter/Coaster. These details will be worked out once we have a confirmed list of ticket holders, but either way the cost will be about the same. The Sprinter/Coaster is $13 per person round-trip, and a contribution towards parking and gasoline will likely run about $10-$15 per passenger.

So, give us a holler if you think you might want to come with us and shout at our local MLB team. Clever Knits will be CLOSED that day so that all of us can go to the game!

Clever Knitters!

Happy Summer! We have been busy knitting up lightweight shawls, socks, and summery garments (I have TWO laceweight sweaters on the needles right now!). Our stock of sock yarn is being constantly replenished, and the number of different lines of sock yarn we carry is always expanding. Sock yarn is GREAT for shawls, baby sweaters, lightweight scarves, lace, and so many other summertime knitting and crochet projects.

I'm especially excited about the visit from knit-celebrity Cheryl Brunette. She will be in town for her great niece's graduation, and has agreed to spend one day of her weekend with us. On that day - June 19th - we will be offering TWO separate events with Cheryl: (1) an all-day class limited to 12 students in which she will teach you how to design a custom sweater pattern to fit your body, and (2) a 2-hour lecture/book-signing in which she will go over a couple helpful knitting-math skills and we will serve lots of chocolate!
