Clever Knits yarn store permanently closed its doors on May 15, 2011.

We still knit the first Tuesday of every month from 7-10pm in the "Maté Attic" at the Yellow Deli, 315 E. Broadway, in Vista.

KAL for May 2010: Citron

Shawls are one of my favourite projects to knit on, because most use just one skein of sock yarn, which means they are portable and lightweight (ideal summer knitting). This month's KAL is a very simple pattern with a delightful result. Say hello to Citron!

The pattern for Citron is available free from Knitty.

As a reminder, our CAKAL (that's Crochet-and-Knit-a-long) groups meet Sundays form 1-4pm, though of course you're welcome to bring your project in on Tuesdays or Fridays. Citron is GREAT knitnight knitting because it's mostly just plain stocking stitch, with just enough of a pattern to mark progress and keep things interesting.

New Hours! Effective May 1st!

Effective May 1st, 2010 we will be cutting back our hours a wee bit. This shouldn't interfere too terribly much with your yarny needs, since the hours being cut were generally very, very quiet here at the shop.

Sat & Sun: 12-7pm
Mon, Wed, & Thurs: 12-6pm
Tuesdays: 12-10pm
Fridays: 12-8pm

The good news is, none of our social knitting events are changing at all. They remain as always:

Knitnight: Tuesdays 6-10pm
Friday Night Knitters: Fridays 5-8pm
Crochet-and-Knit-a-Long: Sundays 1-4pm

Friday Insider #6: Nice Rack!

Okay it's not Friday, but I don't even care, because... OH EM GHEE!

Karen called me to say the BIGGEST BOX EVER came - and I could have SWORN I hadn't ordered anything terribly huge - but there it was! Talk about a "Nice Rack"!

Now our magazines are so much happier and prettier!

Also in today, LOVELY new yarns. Ella Rae Lace Merino in 3 yummy colours, including 2 of their new semi-solids. AMAZING. Delicious. I want to take them home RIGHT NOW (but I will behave, and let you all have first dibs). Two more backordered colours will be on their way very soon!

And Pagewood! One each of some cheerful semi-solids:

And! And! Trekking Hand Art in delightful spring colours:

To quote my dear friend Laurence Tureaud, "I pity the fool" who missed last week's shiny-and-new: a shipment of Mini Mochi and Panda Silk sock yarns from Crystal Palace.

Plus we re-stocked the long back-ordered colours of Ambiente:

Lastly, IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW, we now keep a clearance bench filled with AWESOME things at an AWESOME bargain of 40% off list price. There are yarns and books and rovings and patterns and even needles on the bench, and we are always rotating and changing our clearance items, so check back often!

KAL for April 2010: Mulblahblah

I'm resurrecting the KAL. Our failed attempt to KAL the Kernel last fall got me down (note to self: do not pick something so terribly complex for a KAL), but there are so many lovely and simple shawls to choose from! Since so many of us are already working on the Multnomah (which we have affectionately dubbed the 'Mulblahblah' - since we couldn't remember the name of the shawl, just that it sounded like cancer), I decided to choose it for our first attempt, since it should prove to be a fun and easy KAL. Kirsten started the trend (hers is pictured here, in the lovely slow stripes of Jawoll Magic), since we truly are lemmings at Clever Knits. The pattern is free on ravelry, so download your copy and come in tomorrow to pick out a lovely sock yarn for YOUR Mulblahblah!

As a reminder, our CAKAL (that's Crochet-and-Knit-a-long) groups meet Sundays form 1-4pm. The CAL group is still working on the ripple afghan (it's a lot of stitching to make a whole afghan!).
