Clever Knits yarn store permanently closed its doors on May 15, 2011.

We still knit the first Tuesday of every month from 7-10pm in the "Maté Attic" at the Yellow Deli, 315 E. Broadway, in Vista.

We also now carry sizes 000-10 in the Addi Turbo needles in 16", 24", 32", and 40" lengths.  We've also just started carrying Lantern Moon rosewood Sox Stix. • More sock yarns! We have a HUGE selection of sock yarns that is ever-expanding
For Fall, we are expecting to add more beautiful hand-dyed yarns from Schaefer and Pagewood, as well as yarns from Skacel and Malabrigo to our inventory! As always, let us know if you have any special requests -- we are HAPPY to accommodate special orders. We will also be adding lovely alpaca and wool rovings to our inventory in the fall, to coincide with our Drop-Spindle101 class.

4. As Always

knitnight:
Our knitnight Tuesdays from 7-10pm continue to be an exciting and popular opportunity to come hang out and make new knitterly friends. All fiber artists are welcome (crochet, needlepoint, spinning, cat’s cradle, etc) – and we even have a sewing machine for textile crafts! Feel free to come by even if you just need a stash-fix or a needle, or want to see what all the fuss is about – you don’t HAVE to stay, but you are more than welcome to.

Free wireless:

Don't forget that we offer free wireless to our customers and their knitcomplices, so bring that laptop to browse ravelry or check a pattern on knitty, or whip out your iPhone and make use of our speedy fast connection to learn a new technique on youtube.

Yarnstorm 09:
Bring some yarn graffiti to decorate our ducts and get 10% off your entire purchase! Swatches need to be 26 inches in length and anywhere from 4-10" wide. This offer is valid until the ducts are fully covered in yarn graffiti.

A great big thanks to all of you who have already made our store such a happy and wonderful place to be. We hope that in the coming months we can make it even better!

Warm (& sweatery) regards,
Helena, Karen, & Lexi

OWLS Sweater Class, Wednesdays from 530-730pm starting August 19th

I am pleased to announce YET ANOTHER class at Clever Knits to start in August. This time, the OWLS Sweater (Ravelry link), by Kate Davies, will be taught by Anna.

This class is targeted at an advanced beginner/intermediate knitter, and would make a good first sweater project for someone comfortable with the basics (knit/purl, ribbing, increases, decreases, circular knitting, DPNs, etc). Experience with cables is not necessary, but is helpful.

Knit on big needles and bulky yarn, the OWLS sweater is a fast knit with simple construction and minimal seaming through circular needles. This pattern reduces bulk through the fit of the sweater and has several large, tall, owl cables standing proudly on the yoke. Pattern must be downloaded from Ravelry. Sweater will be knitted over the course of the 6 weeks, homework must be done before class.

Registration: Come in or email cleverknits@gmail.com to reserve your space in class. Advance payment is required. Refunds available only if we are able to fill your space in the class.

Cost: $40 for six 2hr sessions ($60 if materials are purchased elsewhere)

Schedule: The OWLS Class will be held on six consecutive Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30pm, starting August 19th (subject to change due to the needs of the class).

Week 1 (Aug 19): Introduction to yoked sweaters, Casting on and Hip shaping
Week 2 (Aug 26): Waist shaping and Bust Increases
Week 3 (Sept 2): Completion of the body, Sleeves
Week 4 (Sept 9): Joining Body and Sleeves
Week 5 (Sept 16): Yoke and Cables
Week 6 (Sept 23): Yoke and Cables (if necessary), Finishing Techniques and Beading

Limit: 7 students, advance registration is required (classes will be canceled and all fees refunded if we do not have at least 4 students signed up).

Materials: Note that each student MUST download the free pattern and bring it with them to class. Anna has obtained the author's permission to use her pattern for the class, with the stipulation that each student print her own copy.
  • Pattern (available for free on Ravelry)
  • 500-800g chunky-weight yarn
  • Size 10 and 10.5 circular needles in short (24") and long (32" OR 40") and (DPN OR long circular)
  • 32-42 buttons
  • tapestry needle
  • cable needle (OR DPN)
  • stitch markers of two different colours or types

Before and After

My mama happened to dig up a true 'before' picture, and I wanted to post it because the difference is SO remarkable.

Our very first time in the new space, measuring:

In the completed store on the morning of our Ever-so-Grand Opening:

The GRANDEST of Ever-so-Grand Openings

We probably had over a hundred people come to see our new store on its opening day. There were SO MANY amazing people, it was a thrill to meet everyone and make so many new friends. I hope that ALL of you can come to our knitnights on Tuesdays from 7-10pm. Or if you don't have time to knit, you can certainly come for a late-night stash fix and pick up some more yarn.

People were tapping on the windows as early as 10:30 in the morning, but we just couldn't turn them away. Here they are -- our very first customers, Nancy Russell and her daughter, Robin:

I was positively giddy with excitement, awestruck by the support from knitters near and far who came to the Ever-so-Grand Opening.

Even our knitcomplices were here to support us, making use of the free wireless we offer.

There are DOZENS more photos, and even some video clips (thanks to my dear friend Jeremy), which are being posted on flickr and vimeo, so do check there for more media.

Lines that we carry

This is a listing of the brands and lines of yarns and notions that we carry here at Clever Knits. It is often expanding, and may not be entirely up to date, so do call if there is something you want that is not on this list. We are happy to take special orders for colors or yarns not carried regularly.

SHELVES!

Little pieces that have fallen into place in the past week.

Most importantly, the much-awaited shelving arrived, and was constructed, dusted, and bracketed to the walls:

...and FILLED WITH YARNS:

At this point, we were SILLY with glee, and couldn't help ourselves -- we HAD to bury Alexa in the yarns:

(don't worry, the floors are clean!)

(and you can view her emergence from the pile of yarns on facebook)
