Clever Knits yarn store permanently closed its doors on May 15, 2011.

We still knit the first Tuesday of every month from 7-10pm in the "Maté Attic" at the Yellow Deli, 315 E. Broadway, in Vista.

Sewing

Last week, we had an EPIC day of sewing -- cases for throw pillows and covers for comfy chairs.

It was really delightful to see the bits of shiny fabric all over the store.

I am certainly an amateur when it comes to my sewing skills, but I can follow a pattern, and am very good at sewing squares and rectangles of all sizes.

I'm planning to carry a selection of fabrics for smaller projects, or things like purse linings, though tragically they may or may not be here in time for the opening.

FACH!

Inventoried the Trekking yarns yesterday (I'll be carrying a LOT of sock yarns -- I have a strange passion for sock yarns).

I love that they make a yarn that says 'FACH' on the label. I know 'fach' is actually German for 'ply' as in '6-ply' but it's still rather hilarious. I keep running around the store saying 'Faaaaach'.

The yarns and the yarns and the yarns

We've been working to keep up inventorying packages as they come in, and let me just say, it's a LOT of yarn (and we've received less than half of it!!).

On Monday we FINALLY will be receiving the yarn shelving for the EPIC Wall-of-Yarn (the shipping has been pushed back several times since I originally ordered them at the beginning of JUNE), which is one of the final structural details that still needs to be installed in the store.

Next week we get in several HUGE yarn orders, which we will rapidly inventory and (gasp) SHELVE.

The needles and hooks are already tagged and organized and happily sitting in place on their little shelves. Soon, the rest will be, too!

Details

The details are ironed out, inventory trickles in, and things really are coming together.

The table is in place on its rug.

Creative hardware displays patterns from O-Wool, and other things...

Rice baskets from Lantern Moon look beautiful with our decor (and the orange paint looks remarkably different in these two photos).

Yet still, there is a tremendous blank spot where shelving will go, if it ever decides to arrive!!

The first box of yarns!

Today the first of what will be many, many boxes of yarns arrived, while Karen and I were doing some light work in the store. Things are really coming together now; it's wildly exciting. There should be announcement VERY SOON about the opening date. So, keep your eyes peeled!

More floor in the store

Lexi, Will, and I worked on the flooring for a few more hours today. It's about half done, which is super exciting. I set down a couple of the baseboards, which we'll leaving in their natural pine because I really like the way that looks. Of course, this picture makes everything seem electric blue, which it's not. And there's no blue in the flooring at all.

I also snagged a BEAUTIFUL mid-century modern coffee table at the local antique shop. I'm thrilled, because it is EXACTLY what I was looking for, and all the knock-offs were at least three times what I paid for this one (a steal at only $55). It will be a wonderful focal point for our sitknit area.

Lexi and I have gotten VERY good at laying the floors, so it should be quick work to finish, though I'll need to make another trip to Ikea for a five more boxes of the floorboards (since I cleaned them out last time we went), plus a few other items.

While we were there, the phone guy came by and connected our line, which was marvelously exciting. Now I just need to purchase a phone (minor details).
